FILTER-ON units & equipments work on the
principle of two-stage electrostatic precipitation. It
consists of plate type electrodes across which high voltage
electric field is applied. Also it has two sections i.e.
Ionization Section & Collection Section. When the air
stream passes through ionization section, the particles in air
are ionized and are charged positively, due to high voltage
electric field.
When positively charged particles enter collection
section, these are repelled by positive electrode and are attracted
to negative electrode. These particles get neutralized on negative
electrode and remain deposited on the negative electrode plate. Thus
the particles are separated from air stream and air filtration is
achieved.
FILTER-ON units are equipped with inbuilt high
voltage power pack, so it does not required High Voltage Supply. The
units require standard single-phase 230-v AC 50 Hz supply. The power
pack in the unit converts this incoming supply to the required high
voltages.
Maximum high voltage generated in 12 kv DC, which
is the range of voltage which is used in many household appliances
also like Television sets, PC etc. However all the care is ensured
in design and manufacturing to completely eliminate any possible
hazard.
The access doors of the units are fitted with door safety
switches so that the supply get immediately cut off, when any door
is opened. Also the body of the unit is connected to ground. The
high voltage components are designed to withstand short circuit
loads and the controlling circuit ensures proper regulation of
voltages in routine operation as well as short circuit
operations.
As such virtually there are
no hazards / risks regarding the high voltage in FILTER-ON
units.
Any type of particulate matter even up to 0.01
micron size can be filtered in FILTER-ON units. Therefore all the
typical indoors as well as industrial pollutants such as
smoke/fumes/mist/fine suspended particles etc. are effectively
captured in FILTER-ON units.
FILTER-ON Electrostatic Precipitator type air
filters offer major technical advantages over conventional,
mechanical / media type filter such as -
1.Higher
filtration efficiency even for very fine sub-micron particles
-
Most of the media type mechanical filters offer good efficiency
for 5 micron and above dust particles. However more than 90% of the
particles in air are below. 1 micron size. Thus theses mechanical
filters only filter out fraction of total particles present in the
air stream and thus are not effective enough to control indoor
pollutants.
On the other hand FILTER-ON unit offer very good
filtration efficiency even up to 0.3 micron size particles.
55 -
60% Filtration efficiency for 0.3 Micron size.
70 - 75%
Filtration efficiency for 0.5 micron size.
98 - 99% Filtration
efficiency for 5.0 micron size.
As measured on Laser Particle
Counter
Thus FILTER-ON provides very effective solution for
air filtration in terms of better filtration for finer/sub micron
size particles which forms major percentage of air
stream.
2. Very low Pressure Drop -
As compared to
the mechanical filter which offers similar efficiency range as that
of FILTER-ON ESP type air filter, the value of total pressure drop
across filter is less than half for FILTER-ON units as compared to
mechanical filters. With pre & after filters value of pressure
drop is max. 8-10 mm for FILTER-ON units. Thus a lot of power saving
is achieved due to lesser load on blower-motor as compared to
mechanical filter.
3. Life of Filter -
Since
FILTER-ON ESP type air filters are made of Aluminum electrode
plates, it is cleanable, reusable filter and no replacement is
required. Thus this type of filter has got infinite life which is
the most significant advantage.
Since the unit works on high voltage, it cannot be
used in fire hazardous area, inflammable type fumes such as
petroleum and oil refineries as well as VOC (Volatile Organic
Chemicals) type - pollutants.
Proper earthings is required to be provided to the
unit
for any maintenance work, first it is required to
switch off the incoming supply to unit. Then after waiting for 5 -10
min. the access doors are to be opened. It is also required to short
the High Voltage terminals so as to discharge the residual charges
if any in the unit should be handled by Electrical Engineer /
Electrician having knowledge of handling H.V. Sources.
Depending upon application and concentration of
pollutants, it is required to clean the ESP type filter cell
periodically. It is advisable to follow a preventive maintenance
schedule for this activity. Also other checks of indications,
electrical components required to check once in a month so as to
ensure trouble free operations of the unit.
Filter On oil mist collectors use Electrostatic Precipitation technology for oil mist and smoke elimination and provide the most healthy indoor air quality.
As the air stream passes through Filter On mist collectors, it goes through an ionizing section followed by a collecting section. The ionizer applies an electrical charge to any airborne contamination that floats through it. Smoke, mist and particles are now electrically charged. In the next section, the air stream passes through a series of oppositely charged collection plates. The air pollutants are attracted to the collection plates; stick to them and get neutralized.
The small oil particles form a larger droplet of oil which then drips down into an oil collection tank at the bottom of the unit. This tank is further drained into the oil tank of machine tool on which the mist collector is mounted.
Benefits of ESP :
Because the filtration device uses plates instead of woven filter media, the air stream can easily pass through with minimal resistance. Thus, as compared to any other filtration system, this system consumes lowest power for the fan / blower which is huge. In fact, many times the power saving for 1-2 years is more than the cost of the mist collector itself.
Electrostatic oil mist eliminators continuously collect and drain fluid which also protects and lubricates the cells. The filtration plates in such systems can be washed and reused whenever necessary. Periodic cleaning is the only maintenance they require. Like conventional filters, they need not be replaced frequently. This again saves recurring expenditure.
